Executive Order: Beginning Friday 7/31/2020, all kids 5 years old and older must wear a face mask in public spaces. We understand that this is challenging for some typically developing children and can be especially difficult with kids who have sensory, behavioral, cognitive, and speech/language disorders.
At this time, in order to be compliant with the Executive Order, our office is able to offer an accommodation for services. Our accommodation would be to provide services via teletherapy on our HIPAA compliant ZOOM platform.
If you need assistance with helping your child wear a mask, please see our information below. We are working on creating a take home sensory kit to help your child with sensory concerns around mask wearing. More details to come.
The CDC recommends that all children and adults wash their hands prior to putting on your mask. Here is a great step by step picture for hand washing. More details and instructions on how to help your child with hand washing can be found in this file.
Social Stories are a great way to help your child understand something new. Read the story often without any expectations of wearing the mask. Keep the book with you and read it prior to putting your mask on. You could have your child color the book or use it electronically. (Social Story provided by autismlittlelearners.com)
